Engineering
Throughout the years, engineers have designed, tested and implemented various technology solutions to help reduce the collisions, injuries and fatalities at highway-rail grade crossings. Some of these technologies are in effect today, but many other technologies are still being tested and may someday be implemented across the United States.
The following is a brief overview of what has been developed to help improve highway-rail grade crossing safety through the use of Engineering and Technology. Also included is a preview of cutting-edge technologies for possible use in the future.
