Come Learn the Meaning of “Cowboy Up”

Cowboy Poet Red Steagall

We promise you won’t leave Texas after the Symposium without understanding cowboys just a little bit better. Now Red Steagall will help explain Texas, what it means to be a cowboy or a cowgirl and what they mean by “cowboy up.” He thinks we all have a little bit of cowboy in us. It’s good to have that spirit of adventure, the yearning to live a little more simply and close to nature, he says.

The Texas State Legislature named Steagal The Official Cowboy Poet of Texas in 1991. He is also the official Cowboy Poet Laureate of the City of San Juan Capistrano, California. His career has spanned the globe from Australia to the Middle East to South America to the Far East, performing for heads of state, including a special party for President Reagan at the White House in 1983.

Red has recorded 26 consecutive records on the national charts and released 19 albums. Wagon Tracks, came out in fall 2002 and received the award for Best Traditional Music.. Among his 200 recorded compositions are included the title song to the National Finals Rodeo telecast and songs for five movies. Red understands technology and global economics—all cowboys do nowadays, but he’s still drawn to the lonesome prairie, chuck wagon campfires and hoping it up on a Saturday night! Come listen to a piece of Americana and Ride for the Brand on July 12 in San Antonio.
