Maryland Hits Critical Areas With Station Blitzes, Training

GCCI Training in Maryland for 38 Officers

Some natural shortcuts don’t come without a price. A community near Baltimore learned this as a youngster lost his life on the tracks one Saturday this spring. In his home community parents, police, railroad safety managers and Baltimore resident Alvin Richardson, who is Amtrak’s liaison to Operation Lifesaver, got together to prevent another child from being hit by a train.

Several other areas in and around Baltimore were the focus of enforcement blitzes and information events at train stations where congestion impacts the tracks. In particular volunteer OL presenters worked at BWI airport, several MARC stations and assisted with an event at DC’s Union Station—the end of the line for the MARC in Washington.

The Grade Crossing Collision Investigation course offered in the Baltimore area during OL Week drew 38 Officers from several jurisdictions. Several of these officers have already expressed an interest in making Operation Lifesaver presentations in their communities.
