Garrett Augustus Morgan was a practical man who wanted to improve the lives of the American people. He was an extraordinary businessman as well as an inventor who created things that made the lives of many people safer and more convenient.
• One of his early inventions was the traffic signal and this greatly improved safety on America's streets.
• Garrett A. Morgan's success was led by his proficiency for fixing things and constantly experimenting to develop new concepts.
• The Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program was created by the U.S. Department of Transportation to help America’s youth discover and explore careers in transportation.
• Many Operation Lifesaver participants are involved in railroad transportation and safety careers.
